'It was not going to happen!' What Lauren Scruggs Kennedy tossed when moving in with Jason

Lauren Scruggs Kennedy is opening the doors to her California home to give TODAY.com the lowdown on what it was really like moving in with husband Jason Kennedy, and how they made their five-bedroom house a home after their December nuptials.

About Jason's circle bed

"I think that when you're moving in together for the first time, you have to compromise and blend pieces from your past that work in your new space. I put my foot down when it came to the brown leather circle bed that he had in his old place. His family was on my side with that one. It was not going to happen!"

Decorating as a couple

"We wanted our home to represent us fully — where we've been and our experiences together. Our home is very modern with clean lines and shades of white — but we also wove in some coastal elements like the woven mirror in my office, and rustic pieces like teak lanterns in our backyard. We have similar tastes and both love neutral, relaxed tones, and we spent a lot of time picking pieces out together."

The couple's favorite way to spend time at home

"We love to sit out by the fire pit at night together as the sun is setting with big cozy blankets and pillows. It is so peaceful out there! We also love hosting people for dinner!"

What Lauren kept from her single life

"Back when I was living in my first apartment, I had a cream-colored, tufted couch specially made for me - which now sits in my home office! It's this nice bit of nostalgia that reminds me of the fun times I had at my old place, and now it's Jason's spot when he's hanging out while I'm blogging in my office. It means so much to me because it's a happy reminder of my past, but is now a part of my new life with Jason."
